The Museum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen

TheMuseum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, now a First-Grade National Museum, was completed in1956. It is also a National Demonstration Base of Patriotic Education andNational Base of Anti-Corruption Education.

Amultiplex demonstrative model has been established with the theme of “life ofDr. Sun Yat-sen and the social context”, combining tangible and intangiblecultural heritage and serving the functions of historical commemoration andfolk culture preservation. Currently open to tourists are such features asMemories of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Exhibition of Folk Houses in Cuiheng, Exhibitionof Farming Culture, Memories of Yang Ying and Lu Haodong, Exhibition of theIntangible Cultural Heritage.

Facingwest, Former Residence of Dr. Sun Yat-sen has an area of 500 square meters andthe floorage around 340 square meters. With Mr. Sun’s presiding over the designand construction in 1892, it was enlisted as a Key National Relics ProtectionUnit in 1986. The residence is a two-storey building with brick-timberstructure, combining architectural styles of the east and the west. Twocourtyards lie in front of and behind the main building, all enclosed by awall. In the right half of the front court is a well, which is the preciselocation of the old house where Dr. Sun was born. In the left is the tamarindtree grown from the seeds brought home by him from Honolulu in 1883, which wasdeformed as such after it was blown down by a typhoon in 1931.

Onexhibition here are life of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and his family. On the ground flooris a complete and systematic introduction to the revolutionary thoughts andactivities of Dr. Sun, and on the 2nd floor, titled “Families andPosterity of Dr. Sun Yat-sen”, is a display of how his families and latergenerations have supported, contributed to and sacrificed for his revolutionarycause. In addition, special galleries of various subjects and themes arescheduled regularly.
